Pakistan Telecommunication Authority conducted a survey/ inspection to monitor sale of pre-active SIMs to check if cellular companies are selling SIMs in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) defined by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority or not, told us sources familiar with the matter.

Survey results, which are exclusively made available to ProPakistani, revealed that all cellular companies are violating SOP in selling postpaid SIMs, while Mobilink topped the race with 7 out of 9 Customer Service Centers and 18 out of 26 franchises have been found guilty of selling SIMs without fulfilling the described procedures.

Russia’s VimpleCom has reportedly offered a lucrative sum, said to be as high as USD 6.8 billion, to Naguib Sawiris to get hold of controlling stakes in Orascom Telecom.

Son of a top person in government is allegedly hindering the way of multiple companies for deploying undersea cable, just to maintain the monopoly of existing operators, reported ‘The Nation’ today.
Nation, in its report alleged that existing three undersea fiber optic cable operators have joined hands with the said person to block the road for any upcoming operators.

Last week, on the floor of National Assembly, Minister for Privatization, Mr. Waqar Ahmed Khan was asked to present fact and figures on Etisalat’s pending payment, and the steps being taken by the Ministry to recover the said amount from the purchaser.

In response to which, Mr. Waqar Ahmed Khan told the house on September 23rd, 2010 that Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) was privatized through sale of 26 percent shares for US$ 2,598,960,000 along with transfer of management control.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) in collaboration with NUST School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (SEECS) and Internet Society (ISOC) Pakistan Chapter hosted an exclusive remote participation hub for fifth annual IGF Meeting at SEECS, Islamabad.

The event was organized keeping in view the dire need of Internet Governance issues understanding and
